Blu Tech systems come in two filter sizes, 5-inch and 10-inch. A 10-inch filter is not a better filter. The difference is capacity and size, and the right pick depends on how much water you use and how much room you have.

• 5-inch filters keep the system small and light. They are easier to carry, store and set up at each stop, and they fit in tight wet bays. The AR2, AR3 and AR3 UVC all use 5-inch filters.
• 10-inch filters hold more, so high water volume users go longer between filter changes. If you run a lot of showers, dishes and laundry, that means fewer filter swaps. Look at the AR3 XLT 3-Stage, the AR3 XLT LED UVC 4-Stage or the XLT Water Filter Bundle.

Our recommendation: most travelers in groups of 2 to 3 people use 5-inch systems and are happy with the portability. Groups of 3 or more usually benefit from 10-inch filters and the longer change intervals that come with them.

The MR3 3-Stage Water Filter is still available, and some customers prefer it for its heavier stainless steel construction. Blu Technology is phasing the MR series out over time in favor of the AR series, which uses a lighter aluminum frame for weight savings and easier portability, so the MR3 may only be available while supplies last. The same goes for the 2-stage MR2.
