Alternator Charging Wiring Kit (50A)
The Off-Grid Power 50A 12V Alternator Charging Wiring Kit provides the DC cable, copper lugs, and adhesive-lined heat shrink needed to integrate the optional MobileMustHave 50A at 12V alternator charging module with a compatible Off-Grid Power Bundle.
This wiring kit is designed to support the connection of the optional alternator charging package, including the Orion 1400 Series DC-to-DC charger and associated circuit protection, into the primary Off-Grid Power System. The included cable lengths and termination hardware are selected to match the detailed MMH wiring diagrams for this charging option, helping simplify sourcing and ensuring the required connection materials are available as part of the installation.
Wire quantities are measured in linear feet. The material list specifies two 30-foot quantities of 4 AWG UL MTW cable, for 60 feet total. Heat-shrink quantities are supplied as 12-inch sections.
The cable included in this kit is full-AWG, pure OFC copper cable made in the USA and selected for demanding mobile, marine, RV, automotive, and off-grid power applications. The Class K flexible stranded construction makes the cable easier to route through mobile installations while providing the copper content needed for high-current DC connections.
The cable carries multiple ratings and approvals, including UL MTW, UL1426 BC5-W2 marine cable, UL THW building wire, UL AWM, and SAE automotive battery cable ratings. It features a durable PVC jacket resistant to oil, water, chemicals, abrasion, and sunlight and carries a UL VW-1 flame-resistance rating. Depending on the applicable rating, the cable is rated for applications up to 600V or 1000V.
The included heavy-duty lugs are manufactured from pure copper and tin plated for corrosion resistance. Their seamless construction, flared barrel, and chamfered opening are well suited for the flexible stranded cable used in high-current mobile power installations.
The lugs are UL Listed/CSA Certified and can be crimped or soldered. Multiple stud-hole sizes are included so the wiring can be terminated at the appropriate connection points throughout the alternator charging circuit as shown in the MMH wiring diagrams.
The included red and black heat shrink uses a 3:1 shrink ratio dual-wall construction with a flame-retardant cross-linked polyolefin exterior and hot-melt adhesive interior. When properly heated, the tubing shrinks tightly around the connection while the adhesive flows around the underlying surface. Once cooled, it forms a durable, flexible, and water-resistant seal around the termination.
This wiring kit is specifically designed to accompany the optional 50A at 12V Alternator Charging Module available for MobileMustHave Off-Grid Power Bundles. It provides the wiring and termination materials used to connect the Orion DC-to-DC charging equipment and associated protection into the larger power system according to the supplied MMH diagrams.
While the wiring kit can be purchased separately, it is intended primarily to be selected as part of a complete system through the MobileMustHave Off-Grid Power Configurator, which automatically matches the appropriate charging modules, wiring kits, and supporting components to your selected system.
